The religious people tell us we really won’t experience bliss until we die and go to heaven. But I believe in having as much as you can of this experience while you are still alive.

[…]

If you do follow your bliss you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while, waiting for you, and the life that you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in the field of your bliss, and they open the doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid, and doors will open where you didn’t know they were going to be.

Most churches make people feel guilty about natural human inclinations, making them feel dependent on the church for forgiveness. Religion focuses on unresolved human problems of insecurity, shame, fear, and wish fulfillment, and offers hope for a better life in the next world. Science offers people the tools of reason and knowledge to help build self-reliance and free people from mythology and simple wish fulfillment

What is the strongest factor in converting people to the “dark side”? Making them into compassion-free murderers?

I think it’s black and white thinking. “They are all evil”, “This is absolute truth”, “Nothing will change my mind”, “We are always right”, “If they are not with us – they are against us”, “There can’t be another interpretation”, etc.

Any ideology grooming for this type of thinking is potentially making people to flip.

Compassion is not possible if you can’t stand in other people’s shoes.

Don’t be afraid of the mob. Don’t be affraid of ones who punch if you say something they don’t like. Be honest. Be thoughtful. Be provocative if you think it is needed.

People who punch because you don’t want to pretend that you like their imaginary friend are the worst on this planet.

I don’t object people having any sets of mind. It is generally not my business. I will have an opinion on your set of mind but you might not ever hear it. Unless you ask, read my blog, or I am participating in a discussion on that set of mind.

I won’t trust a religious fundamentalist. I will stay away if I can. Because I know their priorities. I know where their loyalties are. Not with people.

This is not hatred, it’s self preservation…

Meaning and morality of One’s life come from within oneself. Healthy, strong individuals seek self expansion by experimenting and by living dangerously. Life consists of an infinite number of possibilities and the healthy person explores as many of them as posible. Religions that teach pity, self-contempt, humility, self-restraint and guilt are incorrect. The good life is ever changing, challenging, devoid of regret, intense, creative and risky.

The man who suffers from a sense of sin is suffering from a particular kind of self-love. In all this vast universe the thing that appears to him of most importance is that he himself should be virtuous. It is a grave defect in certain forms of traditional religion that they have encouraged this particular kind of self-absorption.

but worth remembering…

http://bigstory.ap.org/article/harlem-shake-videos-provoke-tunisian-battles-0

“TUNIS, Tunisia (AP) — After attacks by religious extremists, the assassination of an opposition politician and the resignation of the prime minister, Tunisia is now being assailed by… an Internet dance craze.

The YouTube phenomenon of the “Harlem Shake” has popped up in spots all over the world, but in Tunisia it’s more than just a curiosity or a fad — it has become part of a bitter rivalry between the secularists and Islamists striving to shape the identity of this North African nation as it transitions to democracy after years of dictatorship.

Videos posted by Tunisian students have provoked a violent backlash by conservative Muslims, condemnations from the education minister and hundreds of new copycat videos online.”

“Opinions over the videos have been split, with some calling it immoral and provocative — even going so far as to call the students unbelievers and therefore marked for death — while others seeing it as typical of humor in Tunisia, where many retain strong secular tastes.”

“As students elsewhere across the country have tried to create videos of their own, they have often been attacked by religious conservatives.”
