Mind readers and pigeon holers

Many won’t like to hear “I know how you MUST feel “. Especially from a relative stranger. Especially on a good day suggesting that you MUST feel horrible. This “mind reading” bothers us because it intrudes on something really private. There is lots of stuff going on in everybody’s head which is not for sharing.

Similarly unpleasant is the situation when a stranger asks where are you from, then says to herself “AHA!” and behaves like she  knows everything about you. Yeah, she might see a couple of news stories about your country, was given a folk art item or tried an ethnic dish but how does this tell her about who you really are inside?

Many really don’t like it when the conversation goes about their personality type feeling pigeon holed. I don’t have any bad feelings yet about this “hole”. Its pretty wide and comfortable. Even better, people talking about personalities are likely to have many common interests with myself so it all depends on how we percieve ourselves.

And on rules we make too.

“The more rules you have about how people have to be, how life has to be for you to be happy, the less happy you’re going to be.” Anthony Robbins
