We are all different and we all are getting stuck by different reasons.
Sometime it is obvious how to get unstuck – but not for us. So ask an advice from somebody else. But don’t take any answers as a “must do”.
Personally, I find that a long quiet walk, all alone, among some beautiful countryside, is a great remedy. I had my best “unstuck moment” during one of these walks a few years ago. It felt like the realization that I have been banging on the wrong door just came from nowhere. But I am sure unconsciously my brain was working on the problem for a long time.
This is why I say that day dreaming and procrastination might bring some help, maybe more than an intensive brainstorming could do sometime. You might think you are idle, but this is far from true. Don’t dismiss the pauses or the music won’t make any sense…
As for a blank canvas, it helps to throw some paint on it randomly. Then the brain starts seeing patterns. Same I think is with writing. I’ve got my random helpers everywhere around me.
On my desktop there is a gadget showing a random photo from my archive. Same is on my blog (http://linandara.com/blog/ ). I’ve got the Spider Random Post and the Image Randomiser widgets for Word Press installed. The Revive Old Post plug-in is sending a random article of mine to Twitter every 5 hours.
I’ve got bookmarks for random quote sites:
http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3 in English
and a couple of them in Russian:
http://avignona.ru/list.php?c=songs&s=title&w=desc&o=&p= (singers-songwriters only)
I use Random Personal Picture Finder ™ by Diddly.com (not safe for work!)
and the great Geoguessr ( https://geoguessr.com/ ) game for random inspiration too.
On my phone I’ve got Nameology showing me a random name, World Newspapers, Quotes DB, a feed reader, an photo randomizing widget again, the Kaleidoscope, and the Random Word apps.
Pinterest is full of surprises. Wikipedia has got a random article option.
Out of all that noise something must come out, something ought to inspire us. If it is not obvious yet or too overwhelming, lets switch to the quiet mode and go for a walk…
