Normally people feel genuine sorry for somebody in trouble. But it seems to me that this feeling diminishes if the sufferer is moaning, cursing, complaining, rather than taking this with dignity and trying to keep the good spirit. When a person I know to be constantly unhappy, irritated, moody or angry suffers another blow I don’t feel much. Maybe it is just impossible to be constantly sorry for somebody.
I know I’ve been there. I’ve been crying wolf emotionally and then was surprised that when I really need somebody, no shoulder to lean on was around.
Another reason to make the best of your life instead of making the worst.
